Bobby Rydell Boulevard Dedicated In Philly

The 2400 Block of S. 11th Street in South Philadelphia was the setting for a fabulous tribute to a proud native son. Singer Bobby Rydell saw the street where he was raised renamed "Bobby Rydell Boulevard."

The project was the work of three of Rydell's devoted fans, Linda Hoffman, Jeanne Alder and Sandy Courtright. Rydell's parents, Adrio and Jennie Ridarelli, and loving wife Camille, beamed as Bobby was honored by Philadelphia Council members Anna C. Verna and James Kenny. State Senator Vincent Fumo read the dedication and Philadelphia Mayor Ed Rendell added his words of thanks for all of Bobby's charitable works for the city. Frank Rizzo, Jr. stated that Rydell had been the strongest supporter for the statue that is being erected for his famous father, Frank, Sr.

Radio's Don Cannon introduced the guest of honor who quipped, "They couldn't put my real name, Robert Louis Ridarelli on the sign - there wouldn't be enough room!"
